The Terry Lee Wells Nevada Discovery Museum is a world-class science center dedicated to hands-on science exploration and one-of-a-kind exhibits. Through galleries, events and programs, The Discovery connects learners of all ages with opportunities to explore a wide variety of ever-changing topics, all designed to inspire curiosity and further investigation.
In 2017, The Discovery hosted “A T. rex named Sue” and teamed up with Foundry to tackle the branding of the beast. We created a colorful and creative campaign that didn’t show all of Sue, but rather teased readers and viewers to pique their curiosity. The award-winning campaign drew record numbers to The Discovery during its year-long stay in northern Nevada.
Following Sue, the new challenge was to promote their next feature exhibition – a series of brain-bending, interactive puzzles called “Mindbender Mansion.” For this campaign, we gave it the look and feel of a puzzle, drawing our audience in through intriguing art and cryptic copy. Like Sue, Mindbender Mansion was a smashing success for The Discovery.
On the PR front, the Foundry team works closely with The Discovery to promote current and upcoming exhibitions, special events, educational opportunities and other news to help reinforce the message that The Discovery is THE place to explore science for visitors of all ages.
The Discovery hosted Sue from May 2017 to May 2018. During that time their visitation was a over 139,000 visitors. The exhibit far outperformed their projections for visitation and resulted in the busiest 12 months The Discovery has seen since opening to the public in 2011.
