DOWNTOWN HOTEL & SPA
A premier Marriott resort, Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel & Spa caters to both business and leisure travelers with a prime riverwalk location, Bundox Bocce, fine dining and more.
In early 2017 Renaissance Hotels found a home for its newest addition in Reno’s rapidly evolving downtown corridor. Taking over the former Siena Hotel Casino in April, the Renaissance became Reno’s first branded, non-gaming, full-service hotel and latest addition to the family of more than 160 Renaissance Hotels worldwide. After parting with their initial agency, the Renaissance Reno teamed up with Foundry in February and needed us to spearhead the grand opening launch of their property, as well as address marketing needs following the launch.
With only two months before the property was to officially transition from the Siena Hotel Casino to the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel, the team had to hit the ground running. In addition to reestablishing momentum from the initial announcement, we also needed to plan a ribbon-cutting for the April 5 conversion day and an epic grand opening party that would coincide with the brand’s Global Day of Discovery in May.
The team outlined an action plan that was centered around increasing awareness and building traditional and digital media buzz for the official conversion and grand opening of the Renaissance Reno Downtown Hotel, as well as creating inroads with city officials, business leaders, tourism officials and target media.
Ultimately, we leveraged regional interest in the economic and cultural revitalization of downtown Reno to attract media coverage, developed compelling story angles and directed attention to the ribbon cutting event. We created a theme for the ribbon-cutting that captured the essence of the Renaissance brand and designed custom invitations that were hand-delivered with a themed gift that went along with the event.
In addition to personal invitations, local media received a press release the week of the opening that included a detailed property overview, as well as a vision statement and details regarding the ribbon-cutting ceremony. We also put together a press kit that included an overview of the property, its ownership and key attributes to build excitement about the opening that was sent out to a regional/national media list immediately following the ribbon cutting event.
The ribbon-cutting was a smashing success on all fronts. The event was attended by all three local broadcast TV stations, reporters for Northern Nevada Business Weekly and This is Reno, tourism officials from the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority and Travel Nevada, as well as Chamber members, business leaders, and elected officials including Mayor Hillary Schieve, who made herself available for interviews and touted the hotel as a vital addition to downtown Reno.
