Since the start of COVID-19, the hashtag #BetterTogether has become commonplace on social media, and even in advertising on traditional media, as people share stories of friends, family, communities, working together so we can all get through this. Rather than struggling alone, we are all #BetterTogether.
Today, we can further support our community through #GivingTuesdayNow, a global generosity movement designed to help people and organizations make an impact in their communities and throughout the world.
In Northern Nevada, on an average day, in an average year, non-profit and community organizations work tirelessly to help people in our community. But 2020 is not an “average year” — these organizations are now finding themselves not only trying to fund the causes they always fight for, but also support their communities (and employees) in additional ways, all with reduced or now non-existent sources of income.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada are now working to provide food to at-risk youth in their programs, as is the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows. Both are also offering virtual classes such as art, reading, technology, and cooking through their respective Facebook pages; and the Boys & Girls Clubs are offering childcare for essential workers.
The Nevada Humane Society is not only caring for the animals in their shelter, but they’re also helping pets in the community, ensuring they don’t go hungry by providing free pet food.

Demand for food has been high, and the Food Bank has seen an increase of 30% at most of their sites; they expect numbers to rise. If you don’t have the resources to donate financially, there are other ways you can help!
Let’s be #BetterTogether and support those who support us in times of need.
